Ryan's 5 year check up.

So Ryan had his five year check up yesterday. It was very interesting. He's still a big giant of course, but he's totally healthy! :-) His tonsils and eye sight are great. Dr. Dunphy wants me to take a holistic approach to dealing with Ryan's hyperness right now. He said he does show some symptoms of be ADHD, but that it could just be that he's a hyper, outgoing kid. He said we will wait for Ryan to get in school, if he can focus on his school work and get his stuff done and does well, then it just means he's a hyper kid. But if his school work suffers and his self esteem suffers, then he might need medication to help deal with it. So we will have to see. Dr. Dunphy was actually more concerned with Ryan's anxiety. For those of you that don't know...Ryan has recently developed an enormous fear of doctors. Mainly ones that are wearing like surgical stuff...masks, robes, gloves, etc. If he even sees them on tv he will cover his ears and sob and yell "No doctors mommy! NO NO NO!" He really freaks out. Dr. Dunphy said it's really abnormal for a child his age to develope anxiety about drs when he's never experienced a major surgery or any real contact with drs. So yeah, he wants to keep an eye on that too. Poor Ryan needed six shots, but they said it wouldnt' be good for his system to have so many so they only gave him four and he will need to go back for the other two before he starts kindergarten. This was the first time he's ever gotten shots and actually known it was coming, so it was pretty traumatic for him. So I'm going to schedule the appt for like June or July to give him plenty of time to get over this appt, but also to beat the rush of parents trying to get their kids immunized before school starts. So that's about the jist of the appt. Dr. Dunphy thinks his developement is great and that Ryan is doing well, so that makes me happy! He also looked a little at his teeth and complimented Ryan on his teeth brushing abilities. Ryan LOVES to brush his teeth! So he always does great with that. When we got home from the appt Ryan showed off his bandaides and his sticker and then requested that he get to go to sleep. I had him eat lunch first and then he took a nap. I actually had to wake him up at 5pm cause he was still so wiped out! Poor thing! Anyway, that's my update for now! :-)

I had no idea about his anxiety. Sad. Poor little guy.
Olivia had to get her 11yr old shots a couple weeks ago and they couldn't give them all to her, either, there were so many. Gadzooks!
