Well I woke up on Wednesday morning and by about 8:30am I started having some contractions. I wasn't officially keeping time, but I would glance at the clock and by 9:30am they had been coming about every 10-12 mins. I called Jenn and asked her about how long I should wait to go to the hospital and she said probably about 5 mins apart. I called my mom and let her know what was going on and I also called Tommy and Nicole since they were the ones that were coming to help us with Ryan. I wanted them to have notice if they were going to be coming up. So after I talked to everyone else, I called my dr's office just to check with them. I talked to the nurse and she said the same thing as Jenn that they needed to be at least 5 mins or less apart for an hour OR if I was in too much pain for me to handle. They really weren't that bad, so I figured I was okay. I got Ryan fed and dressed and Josh off to work, then Ryan and I went to the park. I continued to walk around the park while Ryan played but unfortunately it seemed that the contractions were coming less consistantly than before. So after the park, I got Ryan fed lunch and down for a nap. I tried to keep busy by cleaning and baking to take my mind off of whether or not I was having contractions. So about 2pm I started to feel some more contractions coming on and after a few decided I would time them. They were coming between 3-7 mins apart. Josh called and said that his boss found out that I had been contracting and basically told him he had to come home. He insisted I was fine, because I was, but they told him to go home. So by the time he came home, I showed him the contraction times and he decided to get in the shower in case we needed to go. Well while he was in the shower, the contractions started to come on stronger, they weren't really bad, but definitely stronger than before. So when he got out of the shower, I took mine and Ryan's bags downstairs to the car and told Josh that we were going to the hospital. We called and let them know we were coming and headed to admitting. So after that, we went up to the maternity ward and they were waiting for us. I told them what was going on and they said they would check me and then monitor me. So when they checked me, I was only a TWO still! I honestly couldn't believe it! They said I was registering contractions so they were going to monitor me for an hour and then check me again. So after an hour (and me praying that I would make some progress), they came back to check me and I was a four!! So they said since I progressed two cm's in an hour they were going to get me in a room and get the show on the road!
So we got all settled in the room and made our calls to everyone. We called Tommy and Nicole so they could head up and everything was going well. I was told that my dr wasn't on that night and it made me sad. I really liked my dr and after having to switch so late in my pregnancy I was really hoping for him to be there, but Josh had met the dr that would be there and said he was a good guy. Well I guess the dr that was on call called my dr to let him know that I had come in and he decided to come in on his day off to be there! I was SOOOO grateful! After a while Tommy and Nicole got there to help out with Ryan and the contractions started coming on stronger. So I asked for the epidural and boy was that FUNNY! They let Josh stay in the room with me, but they didn't let him watch the actual procedure. So they gave me a shot before so that I wouldn't feel it. For some crazy reason it made me TOTALLY loopy! We were all laughing SO hard! Even the poor drs couldn't contain it. It made for some funny moments. :-) After that I tried to rest but the American Idol finale was on! :-) I had the BEST nurses and when I had to pee they all came in the bathroom with me because they didn't want to see the end of AI! LOL! It was awesome. So after AI, everyone got settled in. Tommy and Nicole did SUCH an amazing job with Ryan, really, I appreciated them SO much!
So we did our best to rest and then the contractions started coming on faster and stronger. So about 1:15am, it was time to push. Tommy stayed outside the room with Ryan and Nicole stayed with us and took pics (not gross ones!). Mom stayed on the phone so she could listen. :-) I was really funny because Ax Men was on and Josh LOVES that show, so in between each contraction, everyone would kind of turn and look at the tv and then I would say "Okay I think I need to push again" and everyone would refocus...it was pretty humorous! So I had to push a little longer because Cole decided to turn face up (like his big brother) so we had to turn him. At that point I started to be able to feel things again. The same thing happened when I was in labor with Ryan, I swear the epidurals just give out right before they crown! Anyway, this is when I just start pushing and pushing. I think I was doing two pushes per contraction because I was just ready for labor to be OVER. So at 2:28am, little Colton Ray was born! He was just SO beautiful and Josh and I just cried and cried! Tommy brought Ryan in to see us, but he had been asleep so all he really wanted to do was go back to sleep! LOL! So Tommy and Nicole took him home for the night. It was so great and I was so glad that everything went so smoothly!
